Our Practice Framework

Our practice framework is informed and guided by a range of theories and approaches, some of which are outlined below

Australian Association for Bush Adventure Therapy

The Australian Association for Bush Adventure Therapy Inc. is a professional body for practitioners who have an interest in supporting, developing and promoting the field of Bush Adventure Therapy in Australia. Cairns Adventure Therapy strive to ensure that program delivery aligns with AABAT's Ethical Principles

Trauma Informed Care

We have extensive experience working with children and adults who have experienced complex trauma. Our approaches are informed and guided by the Practice Guidelines for Clinical Treatment of Complex Trauma (2019) published by the Blue not Foundation.

Narrative Therapy

Alan and Jonny have both done intensive training with The Dulwich Centre. Narrative Therapy aligns well with Adventure and Nature Based approaches

Art Therapy

When in nature we often use materials that we find to create symbolic art

Circle of Security Parenting

Alan and Jonny are accredited Circle of Security Parenting facilitators and incorporate the key messages of the program into much of our work

Rhythm 2 Recovery

Alongside the sounds of nature we can make our own music using Djembe drums and other instruments. We can use these to help our bodies find their rhythm or to express ourselves when we struggle to do this through words.

The Body Keeps The Score

We use a bottom up approach focussing on sensory motor based work rather than traditional talk based therapeutic styles.

Healing properties of Nature

Whenever possible we like to meet with clients outdoors and use nature as our co-facilitator in creating positive change.
